What is behind the profile?
Popular music is understood and lived at the MHL as an open collective term for past, present and future genres of popular music, both from the "Western" culture predominantly socialised in Germany and from other cultures. This ranges, for example, from globally widespread and commercially successful pop music to varieties of jazz, from community music to EDM to unknown folk music from individual cultural regions. In the course of their studies, students develop their individual artistic-pedagogical profile according to their inclinations, whether as singer/songwriters, musical singers, studio musicians, producers or teachers.

What is special about the profile?   
The Popular Music profile is embedded in all degree programmes at the MHL. This ensures a high level of interdisciplinary permeability, which promotes a creative exchange in joint projects and numerous stylistically different ensembles.
